Description

Dear Reader,

I wanted to image the Spaghetti nebula for some time. As you know it starts to rise in late Autumn and early Winter. So this year I decided to make an effort and try to capture it. I used the excellent software NINA in order to plan my framing. When I input everything in the software I found out that the object barely fits a 2 panel mosaic. I thought to myself - I have to turn the dithering off for this one in order to keep everything steady.

So after the planning I started to image - this effort began in the end of October / beginning of November 2022. The plan was to allocate three nights per panel. However then the Autumn/Winter weather came in and delayed those plans. I could image for two nights in the end of October and then the next clear window came on the second day of Christmas. The last panel that I used was captured on the 1st of January 2023.

One of the difficult things in shooting this object (apart that it is dim) is that the path of the Moon comes right in front of it. As I said I wanted to allocate two more night for this project but unfortunately the full Moon in its way ruined this plan. So I processed what I have - a mosaic of two panels with an exposure time of night and a half per panel.

SH2-240 / Simeis 147 is a Supernova Remnant in the constellation Taurus. Its apparent size is 200 x 180 archmin or 7 by 6 full Moon disks on the night sky. Its estimated distance from us is about 3 000 light years and its age - 40 000 years.

Looking at the size and captivating shapes of the Spaghetti Nebula I think that I will revisit this object sometime in the future for a 2x2 panel mosaic in order to capture the space around it as well.

I also uploaded two more revisions - one with processing with Background Neutralization only and one with Photometric Color Calibration. The main image is more of a HOO type of processing that I tweaked manually.

Hope you like them.

CS,
Ivan
